#Congratulations to Sebastian Schwanhaeusser, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Schwan-STABILO group (from the iconic STABILO highlighter to over two million cosmetic pencils produced daily for leading beauty brands.), on being inducted into the Roll of Future and honored by the halloffuture.org  The #HallofFuture (the non-profit organization shaping the future of business) #Award ceremony took place at TenneT Germany (operates Germany's largest transmission grid) in Hanover-Lehrte. 🚀 Together, the member companies represented by these individuals employ two million people across 150 countries and generate one trillion euros in annual revenue.  Since November 2023, the Hall of Future has celebrated a highly selective group of exceptional individuals. It was a pleasure to recognize outstanding individuals who typically view the award not as the culmination of a life’s work, but as a new beginning. Dr. Stephanie Cossmann, Boardmember Symrise AG (one of the world's leading suppliers of fragrances, flavors, cosmetic ingredients and nutrition solutions) delivered an inspiring speech on the responsibility of leadership in stability, emphasizing that security starts at one's own doorstep and extends all the way to addressing geopolitical realities.   The #HallofFuture (the non-profit organization shaping the future of business) #Award ceremony took place at TenneT Germany (maintains and operates Germany's largest transmission grid) in Hanover-Lehrte, the most advanced backbone of our energy security and the pivotal anchor for Europe’s critical infrastructure. Since November 2023, the Hall of Future has celebrated a highly selective group of exceptional individuals.  🚀 Together, the member companies represented by these individuals employ two million people across 150 countries and generate one trillion euros in annual revenue.  The organization is committed to promoting Quality Economy - a new economic paradigm that complements traditional quantitative approaches in macroeconomics, microeconomics, and business economics by emphasizing sustainable and meaningful growth. That is precisely why I value such conversations. In times of profound change, ambiguity tolerance – the ability to navigate contradictions and bring diverse perspectives together constructively – is, in my view, one of the defining leadership capabilities. #Second, thank you to you for following me and making so many exciting discussions possible. 🚙 The performance of electric cars can be #helpful, not just #harmful. DER SPIEGEL has turned its attention to the rapidly increasing #performance of modern #ElectricVehicles, and to the very real risks that accompany it. Yet in doing so, it appears to overlook an essential dimension, thereby neglecting several of the very qualities that define outstanding #journalism. Not least among them is an understanding of how the #EconomiesOfEmotion” may ultimately help Germany itself. One may legitimately debate the extent to which journalism can ever be truly neutral, whether journalists should openly display a normative stance, or how rigorously opinion and reporting ought to be separated. What is far less debatable, however, are the foundational standards of journalistic quality: diligence, clarity, intellectual curiosity, but also, and perhaps above all, independence, critical thinking, responsibility, and the fair representation of #differing #perspectives. Had DER SPIEGEL adhered more consistently to these principles, it might have avoided falling into the simplistic “#horsepower #bad, #SUV #bad” narrative. It could, for instance, also have explored the possibility that Germany’s hesitation toward electric vehicles, alongside concerns such as range anxiety and charging infrastructure, may in part be addressed precisely through the message of performance. For decades, Germany’s fascination with automotive engineering has been inseparable from an admiration for #power and #performance. Whether in childhood card games, automotive magazines, or everyday conversation, horsepower figures and acceleration times from zero to one hundred formed part of the national automotive imagination and pride. Ironically, this is precisely where #electric #vehicles excel. Their defining characteristic is the instantaneous and linear delivery of torque, a form of acceleration that frequently surpasses that of conventional combustion-engine vehicles. At a moment when electric mobility often encounters skepticism, this emotional dimension should not simply be dismissed as superficial or dangerous, but understood as a potential catalyst for adoption. Automotive multipliers matter. The “economies of emotion” can help accelerate the “economies of scale.” Germany, a nation that once defined global automotive aspiration, should recognize that emotional appeal and technological transition are not mutually exclusive. Properly understood, they may well be one of the very mechanisms through which the country regains a leading position in the next era of mobility. Read more

Jetzt also die KI. Read more

A helmet as an alternative? This week, the conservative-right scene in the U.S. is gathering at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, Texas. It’s unbelievable how heavy an American football helmet is. My youngest son is playing here during his year abroad, and I just got to try it on. As it turns out, I found my alternative right across the street from the helmet: the airport from which Lufthansa is taking me back to Merz in Germany — or rather, to March. Read more

You should absolutely read this outstanding Handelsblatt article by its editor-in-chief, Sebastian Matthes. He describes the situation as an “economic time bomb” — and he is right" We may navigate the current economic challenges. We may even retain startups despite the lack of adequate financing options in the next years. But without #education fit for the #future, #Germany will inevitably slide into irrelevance. Almost exactly five years ago, I wrote about this. Anyone who assumes I would take satisfaction in seeing these concerns confirmed – especially by a far better writer – is mistaken. We have simply lost another five years! At the time, I wrote: “If our schools were companies, they would have gone bankrupt long ago” I described the teachers of the future as “mentors and influencers.” The current article speaks of "guides, classifiers, and relationship builders"– a striking convergence. You may want to read both pieces. But if you have time for only one, make it the current article by Sebastian Matthes. Questions from our
CEO's daughter.

Prof. Bernd Thomsen regularly glimpses the future with his young daughter for the Handelsblatt. She was only three years old when our CEO began answering her probing questions (which she asked when she wasn't playing hide-and-seek with her friend) within the business and financial newspaper.

Metaversity.

Interest in a digital parallel world, in real time.

Digital clones of everyone and everything. Fashionable as RayBan, these glasses will not only replace smartphones, but also blur reality and fiction: The metaverse will revolutionize the world and shape a new one: Students will be able to talk to Caesar, colleagues will appear as holograms in meetings, and designers will help you shop from the comfort of your own home.

Lifelong, practice-oriented, granular-level education.

In the future, people won’t pursue a singular profession, but five or more. Skills and abilities will become paramount, replacing the necessity of diplomas. Education will be more holistic and oriented towards practical knowledge. Concentrating on concise, specialized training meets economic requirements, but does it foster personal development? (Important for a complex world.)

Abilitization.
Moved Life.

Almost everything happens in motion.

From turning pages to scrolling: This changed the primary movement of the hand. In the future, though, it will be normal for the whole body to be in motion. As mobility increases, movement will become a peripheral concern. Cars are an important consideration – Many are still drawn to their outward appearance. In the future, however, their interior function will take priority. Coffee cars (instead of Starbucks on the corner) is just one example.

Skills associated with femininity are essential leadership competencies.

Our ever-changing world requires new competencies, skill, and abilities: particularly collaboration and conflict resolution. Pro-social tendencies, such as empathy, are still cultivated through gender-specific upbringing. Regardless of gender, these skills are becoming increasingly important in management.

Shebility.
Iconic Health.

Health is the new religion.

The most intangible commodity is becoming more and more important. And holistic approaches are gaining popularity. The top five: Fresh air (5), nutrition (4), interest in and knowledge of health (3), exercise (2), and happiness (1). Health creates a sense of purpose. From repairing medicine to, on a personal level, generating empowerment and proaction.

Responsibility is on the rise.

More and more people are adopting a change in attitude – seeing the importance of individual action and how it affects the greater good. Responsibility has gained a more prominent position in the value chain. Companies solely invested in their own self-interest and internal growth will face problems down the line. Those who commit to positive change will come out on top.
