Schiss vor der KI? Wir Deutschen sind ja Schiss-Weltmeister, das wissen wir alle. Es hat ja schon ein Buch zur „German Angst“ gegeben und viel Spekulation, wo das denn herkommt - vom Dreißigjährigen Krieg über das Trauma der Hyperinflation im 20. Jahrhundert bis zu diversen Kriegen, die wir allerdings den „Mut“ hatten anzuzetteln. Jetzt also die KI. Ich muss zugeben, dass mir auch mulmig wird. Wenn ich ChatGPT für Kernaufgaben meiner Tätigkeit befrage, kriege ich von Tag zu Tag bessere Antworten. Ich hab selber eine Fibel zum Bücherschreiben mit der KI verfasst, und die KI hat mir dabei so gute Dienste erwiesen, dass ich ganz verblüfft war. Eins kann sie wirklich noch gar nicht gut: Titelformulierungen für meine Bücher. Da fehlt ihr irgendwie der Sinn für die Melange aus den passenden kulturellen Anspielungen, der Humor, der Sinn für leise Brüche. Die Ergebnisse sind oft von plattem Pathos geprägt. Titelformulierungen sind meine Art von Poesie, ein Tänzeln zwischen Plakativität, Kommerz und der Verdichtung des Impetus eines Autors. „Ein Date mit deinem Gehirn“ ist so ein Beispiel. Ich finde die Formulierung nicht mega-genial. Aber sie spiegelt einerseits Damir del Montes unbändige Leidenschaft für sein Thema wider, andererseits verspricht sie fast beiläufig eine lockere Lektüre. Damir del Montes Liebeserklärung ist ganz nebenbei noch ein hervorragendes Antidot gegen unsere neue Lieblingsangst: die vor der Kränkung durch die KI. Also: lest dieses Buch und staunt: unser Gehirn ist so facettenreich, untrennbar mit Herz, Darm und allen möglichen anderen Organen verdrahtet, es ist individuell und kollektiv, es fühlt, denkt, verbindet. Es trägt das Erbe von Generationen in sich und einen riesigen kulturellen Schatz. Lest dieses Buch, und vor lauter Staunen wird die Angst verfliegen. Read more

A helmet as an alternative? This week, the conservative-right scene in the U.S. is gathering at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in Dallas, Texas. It’s unbelievable how heavy an American football helmet is. My youngest son is playing here during his year abroad, and I just got to try it on. As it turns out, I found my alternative right across the street from the helmet: the airport from which Lufthansa is taking me back to Merz in Germany — or rather, to March. Read more

You should absolutely read this outstanding Handelsblatt article by its editor-in-chief, Sebastian Matthes. He describes the situation as an “economic time bomb” — and he is right" We may navigate the current economic challenges. We may even retain startups despite the lack of adequate financing options in the next years. But without #education fit for the #future, #Germany will inevitably slide into irrelevance. Almost exactly five years ago, I wrote about this. Anyone who assumes I would take satisfaction in seeing these concerns confirmed – especially by a far better writer – is mistaken. We have simply lost another five years! At the time, I wrote: “If our schools were companies, they would have gone bankrupt long ago” I described the teachers of the future as “mentors and influencers.” The current article speaks of "guides, classifiers, and relationship builders"– a striking convergence. ⚡️💥 Hall of Future ⚡️💥 ✨𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗲𝗯𝗲𝗻. 𝗭𝘂𝗸𝘂𝗻𝗳𝘁 𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗻. ✨ Ich freue mich sehr über die Aufnahme in die #HallofFuture. 🙏🏻Diese Ehrung würdigt Menschen, die Zukunft aktiv gestalten. Für mich ist sie vor allem eines: ein Auftrag! Ein Auftrag, Verantwortung weiterhin mit Haltung zu leben, Wandel konstruktiv zu begleiten und die großen Zukunftsfragen mit Mut, Innovationskraft und Offenheit anzugehen. Seit vielen Jahren begleite ich Veränderungen in Politik, Wirtschaft und Verbänden. Ob in der Hamburgischen Bürgerschaft, als niedersächsische Ministerin oder heute als Hauptgeschäftsführerin des ZIA Zentraler Immobilien Ausschuss e.V.. Mein Ziel ist es, Brücken zu bauen, Chancen zu öffnen und Fortschritt so zu gestalten, dass er Menschen, Wirtschaft und Umwelt gleichermaßen dient. Die Welt von 2050 soll nachhaltiger, vernetzter und vielfältiger sein. Dieses Ziel erreichen wir nur, wenn wir heute entschlossen handeln. 🌍 Nachhaltigkeit muss Teil unserer wirtschaftlichen Grundlogik sein. 🤝 Vielfalt ist eine Stärke und ein Standortfaktor. 💡 Digitalisierung und Innovation sichern Wettbewerbsfähigkeit und verbessern Lebensqualität. 🏙️ Gebäude müssen Orte sein, die Menschen dienen und die Umwelt achten. 🔄 Kreislaufwirtschaft ist eine notwendige Voraussetzung für Zukunftsfähigkeit. One day after the German far-right party #AfD received 18.8 percent in #BadenWürttemberg (an election campaign that seemed dominated mainly by topics such as #Hagel or #Özdemir, and in which the AfD achieved more than three times the result of the #SPD) it is worth recalling #AdamSmith. Today marks the #250thAnniversary of the publication of his book The #Wealth of Nations. With it, Smith laid the intellectual foundations of modern market-based #economic thought and strongly influenced the later concept of the #SocialMarketEconomy. For Smith, prosperity was ultimately to be judged by the living standards of the population as a whole. #KarlMarx later became one of Smith’s most prominent critics. I have always appreciated both of them for a different, somewhat personal reason: when colleagues teased me for spending five years writing my book on democracy (https://agorapop.com/), I could always reply that Smith and Marx took considerably longer to complete theirs. Fermentationsküche auf Top-Niveau im Berliner Restaurant „Rutz“: Definitiv eine Wiederholung wert – oder, um es mit den Worten des Michelin Guide zu sagen: „Eine Reise wert!“ #Innovationen entstehen oft direkt vor unseren Augen und sind nicht immer hochtechnologisch oder hochkomplex. Manchmal ist es nur die Erinnerung an alte Techniken. In der Lebensmittelherstellung diente #Fermentation lange Zeit vor allem der Haltbarmachung und spielt in nahezu allen Kulturräumen eine bedeutende Rolle, von Sauerkraut über Kefir bis hin zu Miso. Fermentation findet statt, wenn Mikroorganismen (z. B. Bakterien und Hefen) Nahrungsbestandteile abbauen und dabei neue Aromen sowie gesundheitsfördernde Verbindungen entstehen lassen. In der modernen Gastronomie, die mich begeistert, fasziniert und immer wieder in ihren Bann zieht, kreiert Marco Müller durch Fermentation und viele weitere Techniken – für mich – gänzlich neue Geschmacksprofile. Insbesondere die überwiegend regionalen Zutaten zeigen eine beeindruckende Bandbreite, die sich auch in seiner Fermentationsbibliothek widerspiegelt. Der Guide schreibt über das Rutz: „Lassen Sie sich auf die "Reise" durch Marco Müllers Inspirationsmenü ein. Mit seinem eigenen, klaren Stil baut er im Menü gekonnt einen Spannungsbogen auf, der Service erläutert auf angenehm lockere und legere Art die Ideen hinter den Gerichten und geht gerne auf Fragen ein. Die Küche arbeitet ausgesprochen exakt, ohne dabei Leichtigkeit und Gefühl zu verlieren. Die Gerichte bestehen aus wenigen Komponenten und wirken fast reduziert, stecken aber voller Details, die für eine fantastische Tiefe sorgen. With Christmas approaching, it has now been 2 months since I had the opportunity to speak to 2,000 guests of the state government of the “Länd of Innovation” - known to some simply as Baden-Württemberg. What has stayed with me since then is not the moment on stage, but the conversations that followed. The many thoughtful messages I continue to receive - especially on the #TransformationArchitecture presented in the keynote - show how strong the shared desire is to move from #analysis to #action. In that spirit, I am sharing a paper (in German) that colleagues originally prepared for a small circle of interested third readers. It reflects only a small - but, as one participant wrote to me, inspiring - part of the keynote. I offer it here as an invitation to continue the debate on how transformation can be shaped with clarity, ambition, and responsibility. Read more
